I was searching for more cocktail recipes to use up some pineapple we had (because there is just never “a little” pineapple—there’s always more than one needs), and I was captivated by the name of this one. It’s a recollection of the great Sinatra hit, “You do something to me.” In particular:
Let me live ‘neath your spell
Do do that voodoo that you do so well
‘Cause you do something to me
Nobody else could do
That song, of course, should not be confused with the bawdier barroom version of it:
You do something to me
And I’ll do something right back.
Between the pineapple, lime, orange, and tequila (and the voodoo), this drink is borderline Tiki—delicious and boozy, on the dry and sour side. I bumped up the apricot liqueur to ½ ounce because I found the drink a little too sour for my taste when I used just ¼ oz as prescribed in the recipe from Difford’s Guide.
VOODOO I DO
1 ring Pineapple (fresh)
2 oz Tequila reposado
½ oz Triple sec liqueur (40% alcohol by volume)
½ oz Giffard Abricot du Roussillon Liqueur
½ oz Lime juice (freshly squeezed)
Muddle the pineapple in the base of a shaker. Add the other ingredients, shake with plenty of ice, and fine-strain into an ice-filled glass. Garnish with a wedge of pineapple and a Luxardo Maraschino cherry.
