Cocktail (def.): A mixture of spirits, liqueurs, wines, sugar, bitters, or water; an elevated presentation of spirits prepared for enjoyment by people of discriminating tastes.
As declared by the gods of Whoever Declares National Days, today is “National Cocktail Day.”
I’ve also checked with my resident theologian (he lives in my mirror) and confirmed that while today is also Palm Sunday, observing these occasions simultaneously poses no eschatological threats. After all, Palm Sunday is the remembrance of a huge party. Today is Purim as well, which is yet another happy celebration.
So, what’s yours today? Mine will be a:
BALTIMORE BANG
1⅔ oz Bourbon whiskey of choice
½ oz Giffard Abricot du Roussillon
½ oz Freshly squeezed lemon juice
⅓ oz Rich Demerara syrup (2:1 Demerara sugar:water)
Shake all ingredients with ice until well chilled, then strain into an Old Fashioned glass over ice (preferably one large cube of clear ice). Garnish with a ‘sail’ of an orange slice and Luxardo Maraschino cherry.
