The New York Minute Cocktail

When you’re hunkering down against a major rain or snow storm but you wish you were somewhere warm and sunny, try this little vacation in a glass. Sip slowly so those coffee beans steep some of their flavor into the drink, put your feet up, close your eyes, and imagine you’re in Jalisco, Mexico—the home of tequila.

NEW YORK MINUTE
1¾ oz Reposado Tequila
⅔ oz Sweet vermouth (Carpano Antica or equivalent)
½ oz Luxardo Maraschino liqueur
1 tsp Simple or agave syrup
1 dash Fee Bros. Whiskey Barrel Aged Bitters

Combine the ingredients in a mixing glass, stir them with lots of ice for 20-30 seconds, and strain the mixture into a chilled Martini glass. Garnish: Lemon or orange zest, and three coffee beans. Especially the coffee beans; to me, they’re the defining characteristic of this drink, and the coffee flavors intensify as you sip.

I went with the lemon zest, and I flamed it before dropping it into the drink with the coffee beans. Even if you don’t flame the lemon peel, be sure to give it some good twists and squeezes to express its oils onto the surface of the cocktail. If you do a good job of expressing the oils onto the drink, you can also discard the peel; your call.
