First, the fun fact. This year—the Year of Our Lord 2022—Father’s Day and National Martini Day fall on the very same day: Sunday, June 19.

Coincidence? I think not.

So, if you’ve been putting off what to do for Dad this year and woke up this morning with your hair on fire about it (so to speak), get out there and buy him some booze. It’s easy to find, and if you ask nicely the store will probably put it in a free gift bag for you.

Pro tip: I don’t know about your neighborhood, but lots of stores here in the Rochester area are having big tasting events today. I’m not sure if that’s for the dads or the kids, but it’s true. I’ll be over at Baytowne Wine and Spirits in Webster pouring Appleton Estate rums from 12-3 p.m. That’s my little treat.

And if you want to make Dad a special drink tomorrow at the barbecue you’re having for him (you’re doing that, right?), here’s one expressly for fathers, from none other than Ryan Reynolds.

THE VASECTOMY
Wedge of lemon for squeezing
1 oz Cranberry juice cocktail
3 oz Tonic of choice
1½ oz Gin of choice (Aviation, if you want to put a smile on Ryan Reynolds’ face)

Fill a tall glass with ice. Add the cranberry juice, tonic, and gin, and squeeze some fresh lemon juice into the mix. Stir gently once to integrate the ingredients. Garnish with a twist of lemon zest.
