The Parlez-vous Irish Cocktail

Continuing the Franco-Irish theme from yesterday’s Brotherhood cocktail, here’s a great recipe that actually does include Cognac alongside the Irish whiskey. It’s up to you whether to go full Franco-Irish and use Hennessey Cognac or select your favorite other Cognac.

I happened to use Jameson Black Barrel Irish whiskey for this one, but use your Irish whiskey of choice. The orange liqueur (Grand Marnier, Bauchant, or Pierre Ferrand Dry Curaçao work best) and Benedictine render a pale color on the orange side, which may not please Irish purists, but we’ve given Green Chartreuse a fair amount of play this week, too. This drink’s a keeper, though, with a nice balance of citrus and vegetal flavors on top of the boozy whiskey/Cognac base.

PARLEZ-VOUS IRISH COCKTAIL
1 oz Irish whiskey of choice
1 oz Cognac VS or VSOP
½ oz Orange liqueur (80 proof—Grand Marnier or Bauchant are great)
½ oz Benedictine D.O.M.

Stir the ingredients with ice and strain the mix into a chilled glass (consider adding a chunk of ice to the glass as well). Garnish with orange zest twist and grated nutmeg.
